Rai University has always promoted Research and Innovation among its Faculty Members and Students alike. Rai School of Engineering has taken a progressive step in this direction by providing project consultancy services on Smart Farming solution using Artificial Intelligence and Internet of Things under the mentorship of Dr. Sailesh Iyer, Dean, Rai School of Engineering. The vision of Honorable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi towards creating Smart Villages was envisaged as one of the major objectives of the project. The project was a collaborative effort between Rai School of Engineering and Rai School of Agriculture.

Farmers were toiling hard to make a living and dependent upon various factors like rainfall, lack of knowledge of technology advancements, wrong crop selection etc. Rai School of Engineering was already working on Smart Farming solutions with Dr. Sailesh Iyer granted a collaborative Australian Patent titled “IoT based Agri Robotic Hands for Plucking underground crops and Automatic Spraying” which is extremely helpful for farmers and agriculture applications” in April 2021. Problem statement consisted of providing a regional interface connected with IoT Sensors for soil testing, suggesting suitable crop selection and crop management in a smart way. This pertinent problem statement was discussed with Shri Ramesh Panda and Rai University accepted the Consultancy work.

The miniature scalable prototype has been prepared by RSE Team which can have huge benefits for Farming community. Rai University represented by Dr. Sailesh Iyer received a Consultancy amount of Rs. 200000 (Two Lakhs) from Shri Ramesh Panda, Chief Scientist, Wegrow towards completion of the project. This project was initated in August 2022 after MOU signing between Rai University and Wegrow which promotes Research and Consultancy work. Dr. Anil Tomar, Provost, Rai University, a motivating force, congratulated Rai School of Engineering and Rai School of Agriculture team for their commendable achievement.
